KHWARAZMIA. Syr Darya Oghuz (Ghuzz) State. Anonymous, 9th century. Drachm (Silver, 23 mm, 1.08 g, 7 h), citing the Tahirid ruler ʿAbd Allah ibn Tahir (AH 213-230 / AD 828-845). Afrighid-style draped bust to right with a large beaded necklace, wearing Khwarazmian royal head-dress; before head,‘ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṭāhir’ (‘ʿAbd Allah son of Tahir’ in Arabic). Rev. King on horseback to right, holding whip in his left hand; above the horse’s rump, citing governor ‘ʿAbd Allāh’ (in Arabic). Apparently unpublished, but cf. Goncharov and Nastich Group I, variant 1 and Zeno-184343 ( for issue with governor ‘Muḥammad’ on the reverse). Tiny hole and some scratches, otherwise, good fine.
